Dear customers, partners, affiliates, friends,

Catapulte wishes you a Happy New Year 2013, a Happy Chinese New Year of the snake and is proud to announce the opening of Catapulte in Thailand! A new year… a new destination… a new step in Catapulte’s history!

After many years working together and referring customers one to the other, Catapulte and Alexandre Dupont decided to move forward and set up Catapulte in Bangkok to support and guide both common customers and new customers who might be interested in the opportunities that the dynamic Thai market is offering for the past few years. With Catapulte in Hong Kong and Catapulte in Shanghai, Catapulte in Bangkok is the 3rd flag that Catapulte planted in Asia improving its regional presence and its capacity to fully guide its customers in most dynamic countries of the continent.   Catapulte menu, if you cannot see the picture you need to enable them in your email client (right click download picture for Outlook)

Q:Is Thailand a land of opportunity?
A:Yes, Thailand is very much a land of opportunity both in terms of trade and investment. Thai internal market is growing fast (economic growth of 6% of GDP in 2012) due to the emergence of a middle class. In addition, Thailand is increasingly seen as a gateway to the ASEAN market and to Mekong countries/neighboring countries (Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Myanmar). As an example, trade relationship between France and Thailand has increased by 21% in 2012.

Q:What has been the trend lately regarding foreign investors? What have been the most dynamic sectors?
A:Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has considerably increased in the last 4 years, despite the economic crisis. between 2010 and 2012, foreign investments in Thailand have increased by 44%. Japan weights for 50% of FDI in Thailand, followed by China 15%, USA 8% and Europe 8%. France is the third European investor in Thailand. Most dynamic sectors are services, infrastructures (in particular transports and energy), steel, chemical industry and electronics.

Q:Media also show how unstable seems to be the political regime in Thailand: is this a risk when considering establishing in Thailand?
A:There is very little correlation between the instability of the political regime and the Thai economy which is driven by a strong internal demand and high consumption. For example in 2009, the year where Bangkok airport was occupied by demonstrators, economic growth reached 7.8 %. Likewise the number of tourists visiting Thailand has kept increasing year after year to reach 20 million last year despite media reports. This does not mean there are no risks but we do believe that risks to be taken into consideration before doing business in Thailand are more likely natural disaster (floods/tsunami), epidemic (SARS, avian flu) as well as tariffs/non-tariffs barriers than political life.
